*Please note that due to Covid-19 #YoungTeam 2020 has been put on hold. The information remains here as a guide to what the programme will look like, once we are able to reschedule it.
We are delighted that our #YoungTeam project, first piloted in 2019 will return in 2020. We are currently recruiting young people from Wakefield postcodes aged 15-18. Please read the following information then complete the application form to get involved.
#YoungTeam is an educational programme that delivers a Silver Level Arts Award to its graduates, a recognised qualification awarded by Trinity College London. #YoungTeam in particular focuses on the idea of DIY gigs and events, self sufficiency and independent creativity and is built around the annual Long Division Festival.
The team will work with Long Division staff over four months to create ideas that they can then present at the festival itself, and beyond at Wakefield’s Artwalk. They will focus on leadership and new creative challenges. Although Long Division has music as a specialism, an interest or any ability in music is not needed – the team have freedom to explore their own creative paths.
Aside of working together in a classroom setting, the team will have an opportunity to get to know Wakefield as a cultural city, including trips to see live events and meeting working creatives. Take a look at our 2019 review for an idea of what happens at #YoungTeam.
The key dates fall in holidays and on weekends. So it does require a commitment from participants. We try to create an informal atmosphere and work with the team in the style of University tutors – guiding, advising and encouraging. The marked piece of work is a portfolio which team members will need to keep up to date over the course of the project.
Long Division is based in Wakefield City Centre and all sessions / contact time will be in the city centre.
